"In here Hanoi (2016-2019)"
Institut français du Cambodge — garden
19 November –19 December 2025
In here Hanoi offers a glimpse into daily life in this thousand-year-old metropolis, located in
northern Vietnam on the banks of the Red River. This series of photographs transports us to
the heart of the Old Quarter, the city’s historic center, characterized by a dense network of
narrow streets and alleys and it also takes us to the shores of Ho Tay Lake in the northwest
of the city.
The images capture moments that are both intimate and ordinary. Indoors and outdoors,
they highlight the continuity between private spaces and public life. Together, they create a
sensitive portrait of how people live, work, and interact in these lively parts of the capital.
Originally from the outskirts of Hanoi, Thanh Hue is now based in Ho Chi Minh City. A
freelance photojournalist, her practice is in the tradition of socially engaged documentary
photography. The series In here Hanoi is the result of a personal project she began when
she discovered photography during her university years. Not previously shown in an
exhibition, it is being presented for the first time as part of the Photo Phnom Penh festival.
This exhibition is presented as part of the first collaboration between Photo Phnom Penh and
Photo Hanoi.
